Catch up
So many things since last post to make one grumpier every day.
Sad news was John Ferguson's passing. He was a real competitor. Only wish his son could do something with the Leafs. And wouldn't it be nice to see the NHL in Hamilton - take that Bettman, Tannebaum, and Pedie.
Our Toronto mayor is leading the charge to collect a land transfer tax equal to the provincial rate. This is cash up front that people have to come up with when buying a home - it hurts everyone from new buyers to downsizers - total idiocy.
They also want to charge $60 for every vehicle owned by residents which is a tax grab pure and simple. If the province does not come on board for the collection process then likely the city bright lights will spend more to collect this than they will actually collect.
Mayor Miller and his merry band of thieves did not have the guts to meet the public but send the treasurer out to talk about these measures.
On top of all this, there is the proposal wherein we will be paying a graduated garbage tax - in effect this is a tax on families. Why not spend some effort on conservation at the source packaging.
Miller is running an ineffectual campaign for 1 cent of the GST collected in the city - who does he think he is kidding. Toronto is an over managed, under worked, overpaid bureaucratic nightmare with spending out of control. The current leadership lacks the political will and management skills to control it. But little wonder when the deputy mayor has 19 relatives on the city payroll.
More soldiers sacrificed in Afstan and a jackass like Jack Layton tries to make political points.
Indians had a day of national protest with some yahoos closing the 401 and CNR rail line. It's about time to dismantle the Ottawa Indian bureaucracy and corruption on the reserves and start fresh to see what the Indians feel their lives should be like and how it could be accomplished without pissing away the ridiculous amounts of money that we do now.
Warren Kinsella is really a shinning example of a dirty campaigner and his acolyte Cherniak remains an example of supercilious callow youth.
I think it's official now - Bush is even worse than Jimmy Carter. By the way, how much money is Al Gore making from his global warming shtick.
Conrad Black got hammered by the ridiculous US legal system - although years ago he should have realized that corporate feudalism went out with the Robber Barons.
Two funerals for relatives lately - makes one's own mortality clearer. Although an uncle at 93 buried with the racing form was not a bad life.
On the good side - Tony Bennett holds a crowd better than anyone today.
